Pragmatica: "A royal ordinance
having the force of law."

- Oxford English Dictionary

Founded in 2001, Anti Gravity Surprise (AGS) is a public art collaborative that performs cultural research. Each year we collaborate around one social issue, creating and exhibiting multimedia artwork. AGS develops public art in which dialogue is an integral part of the work itself. By using art as a vehicle to promote critical thinking, the general public become co-creators of AGS projects.

Together our actions are stronger; within groups, energy combines and change happens. AGS believes that collaboration is a political force, fostering creative energy to make social change happen. We choose to make ourselves accountable to other people, bringing new methods of collaboration back into our everyday lives.

AGS encourages art in which process and product are one. We push and pull, take everything apart, put it back together again, and find places for all the missing pieces. We turn ideas into projects that live in real time and space.

The artwork of Anti Gravity Surprise defies passivity by requiring acts of participation. When people make art, they are making the world they want around them. Energy is always moving: forward, up, down, sideways, backwards. Our calling is to create with the community, to think in new ways, to inspire one another

- to transform energy into art.
